16 reason for depression and feeling blue !

Have you ever felt blue? I mean have you ever felt down? Have you asked yourself what would make you happy in that state? If you are in deep depression would you say nothing makes you happy? But even then you might be lying to yourself.

Reasons for depression could be:

1.Loosing a loved one
2. A chronic disease such as cancer, hepatitis, etc
3.Heartbreak
4.Post operation
5. Hormonal changes after giving birth (check this page).http://www.natural-and-homeopathic-remedies.com/natural-remedies-for-depression.html
 6. Hormonal changes during menopause
 7. Low function of thyroid
 8.After a heart infarct
 9. After an accident ( or any other shock)
 10. Lack of spirituality in life
 11.Hormonal changes in the brain
 12.After sudden fame ( e.g.celebrities)
 13.Long dark winters
 14.Extreme lack of B vitamins
 15. Extreme work that leads to exhaustion
 16. Being chronically self critical

I recall when I was a junior youth in Iran, in that atmosphere of after revolution, the country in the war with Iraq, and an extreme suffocating political atmosphere, it happened that several time I felt life was so useless.
At those times I used to tell myself nothing nothing could ever make me happy. Not that anyone asked :)

Nowadays when I have a patient who is feeling down, I ask the same question I asked myself then: What would make you happy now? They look around and murmur „ I don’t know” ! But then I tell them imagine an angel is here waiting for you to mention your wish and she would grant it, so just dare and say it! And then they say whatever is there.

The thing is we deserve to be happy, we deserve to be loved, we deserve to have everything we want. But more than that and maybe prior to that we should be able to put words on what we want.

Fear is not a good motivation, a friend of mine kept saying, when I actually didn’t want to hear it :)
But it is true. Fear is not a good motivation. We need to be brave and at least tell ourselves what is it we want and then dare to say it to others, they might be able to help us.

The logic of it is that if we do not say what is it we really want we keep getting things from people and the world, that we don’t really want.

Isn’t it better to be honest with oneself? Is it really that scary to tell ourselves what is it we really really want?
If I can’t hear the truth of myself who can?
If I can hear the truth of myself everybody can.
